Eating Seeds

It is amazing how many people still seem to think that eating seeds is a new fangled trend. I remember as a child, that my cousins would eat them to supplement their vegan and vegetarian diets and I thought that the whole idea was very strange. I used to feed seed to by pet budgie and the idea of eating those husky dry things was very foreign to me. However, twenty years on, they are much more readily available and people are being encouraged to eat them to help their heart heath etc. However, there are still many people who are old fashioned and would not touch them. I guess we are all stuck in our ways to a certain extent and it does take time for us to change our ways and lifestyles. I suppose there are also certain foods which just do not appeal to us and we will not try them.I think the first seed I had eas sesame and that was in things such as sesame and honey crunch bars. I used to like rolls with the seeds on and then I came across poppy seeds in bread and crackers which I really liked as well. When I went vegetarian, my cousins told me about eating sunflower and pumpkin seeds and I found them rather tasty. I have recently discovered some flax seed recipes and realise that they can be really delicious as well. I think they do need a little more work to make them taste good as they are not nice eaten on their own, unlike the other types of seeds I have tried. However if mixed with other seeds they can be really tasty especially if flavoured up, toasted or mixed into breads, cereals or salads. I now buy flax seed regularly and make a habit of making sure that I incorporate this highly nutrtious seed into something that I eat, each day.
